Richard Waite is the Founder of Waite.EYTS and an early year’s technology, online safety and STEAM consultant with 38 years’ experience in the sector.
Richard supports settings to use technology with purpose, ensuring it strengthens learning, inclusion and safeguarding rather than adding unnecessary workload, drawing on case studies from an urban city nursery and a group of nurseries in Cornwall operating Forest Schools.
As part of his session on Digital Pedagogy: The Use of Technology in Early Years For and Against, Richard will deliver a live demonstration of technology that enhances children’s learning without relying on passive screen time, including Oti Bot’s colour-sensing mode in a matching game, and the Mantra Lingua Classroom Pen to support multilingual storytelling.
He will also reflect on the effective use, and potential misuse, of interactive whiteboards in early years practice.
Richard contributes to national sector conversations, including his involvement in the Birth to 5 Matters Second Edition guidance, where Digital Pedagogy was added, and speaking at events like the Nursery World Big Day Out, Childcare Expo. He is also a writer and writes for the Nursery World, Tapestry, and Internet Matters.Org.
